How can high school students prioritize productivity without sacrificing mental health?

High school students are increasingly facing mental health issues that interfere with their wellness and ability to participate in school successfully. Stemming from academic expectations, students face a cycle of pressure to succeed in school and are simultaneously advised to be mindful of their mental and physical health.

To better understand the gaps in the current market and identify what works for students, I analyzed three top wellness and productivity apps: Calm, Headspace Health, and Forest.

Experiences beyond the app — wearable tech

Experiences beyond the app — wearable tech

Experiences beyond the app — wearable tech

With the increasing saturation of both the productivity and wellness apps in today's market, there lies a gap in users' experiences ending with the closing of the app. To meet this need, I explored how wearable technology and gadgets could allow for the feeling of balance to transcend the app. This would require more user testing to determine which type is best.

Final sprint — designing an ad for students and pitching to Stanford Product Design Professors

After completing the full product design cycle, from ideation to mockups and "launch", I designed an ad to show the user journey for the app. Using a hand-drawn and minimalistic style to connect with students, I explored a more animated take on advertising. I presented this pitch video and final mockups to Stanford Product Design Professors.

Testing MVP with students to enhance strategic design choices and stay human-centered

Beyond the clean visuals of the user interface design, testing the app with students to understand its user experience creates an opportunity to iterate on the designs and respond to existing user needs, as well as understand strategies behind what keeps users engaged to stick to an app for their wellness and productivity.
